Food 'an important part' of Greek culture
Anyone going on holiday to Greece and hoping to immerse themselves in its culture needs to make sure they try out some traditional recipes, an expert has said.
Christoforos Peskias, celebrity chef speaking on behalf of Greek Tourism Organisation, highlighted that the country is very much shaped by food.
He explained: "Food is part of our general culture - the way we eat, the way we are as people. The weather dictates how we eat."
Mr Peskias highlighted that Greek recipes tend not to use a lot of ingredients, but rather it is the quality of the produce that is of utmost importance.
Olive oil, dried oregano and tomatoes are three of the most popular items, the expert added.
Recent research from Kuoni found that people are becoming more adventurous with their food on holiday, with the British stereotype of travellers stocking up their suitcases with snacks largely a thing of the past.
