Book encourages families into the home kitchen

A new recipe book has been developed in Bury in a bid to encourage more families to spend time together in the home kitchen.

Entitled Bury Family Recipes, it has been inspired by people from the local area and offers ideas on tasty, low-cost and nutritious meals.

Francesca Vale, public health nutritionist for Community Services Bury, commented: "Over a few months we held a number of cookery workshops at Children's Centres, where families and friends shared their ideas.

"Our favourites made it into the book and we had lots of fun in the process."

She said that some of the recipes had been passed down the generations and that the book encourages people to shop locally to buy fresh, seasonal produce.

Dr Carrie Ruxton, nutritionist for the Health Supplements Information Service, recently said that parents need to persevere if their children are showing reluctance towards healthy eating.
