Pie salt levels 'putting men's health at risk'
Excessive levels of salt in pie recipes are endangering the health of many men in the UK, a new poll has found.
Carried out by the Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH), the research showed that some of the nation's most popular dishes are failing to live up to nutritional standards.
For example, a Wetherspoon Chicken and Mushroom Pie with chips or mash, gravy and peas was found to contain 7.5g of salt per meal, which exceeds the daily recommended amount of 6g per day.
"Just a few simple changes such as reading the labels in supermarkets or skipping the gravy in pub meals could help you stay within the healthy recommendations," explained Katharine Jenner, nutritionist and campaign director of CASH.
McDonald's recently announced that it will include calorie information for all of its food on menu boards for the first time across its UK outlets from September.
