Fast food outlets 'will eventually consider healthy eating'

It is likely that an increasing number of fast food outlets will start to display more information on the calorific value of their recipes, one expert has said.

As McDonald's announces it will be making such data available in the UK as of September, Tam Fry, spokesperson for the National Obesity Forum expects others to follow suit.

He continued: "If it works it'll be wonderful. We believe that the government will make it obligatory that fast food outlets do have calories [on display].

"We would see that as being a very positive step with the food industry."

Mr Fry acknowledged that there may not be an immediate response to the issue, but over time an increasing number of retailers will make attempts to encourage healthy eating.

McDonald's has also revealed intentions to update the design of the nutritional information that is already included on its packaging as part of the revamp.
