Hertfordshire residents urged to use cooks tools to limit waste

People living in Hertfordshire are being urged to pick up their cooks tools in an effort to reduce the amount of food that ends up in landfill.

Hertfordshire Council has launched the Love Food, Hate Waste campaign, which aims to educate people on how cooks tools can be used to whip up tasty dishes using leftovers.

Councillor John Jarvis, the local authority's member for the environment and strategic housing, commented: "Research shows the average household can save £480 per year if they stopped wasting food, and this rises to £680 per year for families with children."

He added that not only will being creative with cooks tools help to save money, it will also have huge ecological benefits.
"If we stopped wasting food which could have been eaten, it would have the same environmental impact as taking one in four cars off the road," Councillor Jarvis explained.

Last week, homeowners were told that as many as two-thirds of consumers want healthy eating options to be available when they have breakfast.
