Consumers want healthy eating at breakfast

Healthy eating options are finding favour with consumers, new research from Mintel has found.

Two-thirds (66 per cent) of those questioned by the research company said they are interested in a healthy breakfast, which has a considerable impact on where they choose to eat.

No matter what day of the week it is, two-fifths of respondents said nutritious options are the most important factor when it comes to selecting an eatery.

"In a perfect world, restaurants will want to focus development efforts on how to provide patrons with easy, healthy, and flavourful breakfasts that are not cost prohibitive," commented Eric Giandelone, director of foodservice research at Mintel.

He noted that convenience also remains a key factor for people wanting breakfast on-the-go.

Last month, the group found that people are developing a taste for more exotic foods, as imports of produce from the Caribbean and Thailand experience a surge.
