Home cooks in search of value food
Many home cooks are in search of better value produce as the cost of food continues to rise, a new study has revealed.
Conducted by IGD Retail, the survey found that 91 per cent of consumers believe food prices will be even higher in 12 months, while 33 per cent think they will be much more expensive.
Joanne Denney-Finch, IGD chief executive, commented: "Shoppers are continuously assessing products based on the performance that they deliver and are prepared to pay a little extra where they see great value being demonstrated."
She highlighted that the media coverage of these problems has also helped people be more aware of the items they are purchasing for their home cooking.
Respondents to the poll also said that they would be buying more own-brand products in the next 12 months.
Mintel's Global New Products Database recently found that consumers are purchasing more ethnic foods, including those from the Caribbean and Japan.
