Recipes 'don't need salt for flavour'
Too many home cooks rely on salt to add flavour to their recipes, one food expert has suggested.
There are other simple and much healthier means of achieving this, explained Hannah Brinsden, nutritionist for Consensus Action on Salt and Health.
"For instance, herbs, spices, lemon juice and black pepper can all make your meals taste great while also being much healthier," she noted.
Ms Brinsden highlighted that people also need to avoid adding salt to their food at home, as the body will soon get used to having less of it sprinkled over meals.
She added that the recommended daily amount for an adult is 6g, which is only the equivalent to a teaspoon.
Popular dishes from African and Caribbean restaurants in London can contain the same level of salt as that in over 30 packets of ready salted crisps, research from University College London shows.
