Michelin stars awarded to 53 London restaurants

A record number of restaurants in London have been awarded Michelin stars in the 2011 guide, home cooks have been told.

Among those to be given the accolade are the Alain Ducasse restaurant at the Dorchester, Galvin La Chapelle's establishment in Spitalfields and Vijante, located at Bethnal Green’s Town Hall Hotel.

They were just a few of the 53 eateries throughout the capital to be given Michelin stars, giving the city international standing in the culinary stakes.

Visit London chief executive officer Sally Chatterjee said: "With over 6000 dining options, some of the best world cuisine available, and prices to suit all budgets, London's culinary scene not only provides outstanding quality but a breadth of choice that caters for all tastes."

This year's Michelin guide also includes a number of restaurants in Chicago, it was recently revealed, including a number which have been given the Bib Gourmand accolade.
