'Cutting out' food types is an ineffective way to lose weight after Christmas

Cutting out food types is an ineffective way to lose weight after the Christmas period, says a specialist.

The perennial belief that dieters need to restrict their food intake or start a strict detox is counterproductive and can often hinder weight loss, according to a spokesperson from Slimming World.

Jenny Caven, Slimming World, said: "The most successful way to lose weight sustainably is to swap unhealthy foods for healthier alternatives and to fill up to satisfy your appetite with basic everyday foods like plenty of fresh fruit."

Ms Craven also claimed that while healthy eating is advised, foods such as crisps and chocolate should not be completely eliminated from diets.

Meanwhile, Engage Mutual recently revealed that eight out of ten women are concerned about their partner's unhealthy lifestyle, while one in three believed that their husband is under too much pressure at their workplace.
