Be safe cooking this Christmas, says fire service
Home cooks need to be aware of their fire safety while catering on Christmas Day, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has emphasised.
Speaking to Rochdale Online, they highlighted that cooking and preparation need to be well considered, as it can be easy to get distracted.
"It is ironic and tragic that during periods of celebration there is a dramatic increase in the number of fires amongst many communities," said Chief Fire Officer Steve McGuirk.
He emphasised that people need to be aware of their surroundings when using cookware, so alcohol should be avoided while working in the kitchen.
The fire service also emphasised that home cooking should never be left unattended, even to answer the phone or the door, as this increases the risk of fire considerably.
It was recently claimed by torontosun.com that preparation is the best way to ensure a festive meal is as stress-free as possible.
