Dietary fat information is "confusing"

Information regarding dietary fat has been regarded as "confusing" by experts.

Due to this, there needs to be more education about the different fats within foods, according to the National Obesity Forum.

Tam Fry, board member at the National Obesity Forum, said: "The government is not making enough effort to ensure that the bad fats are kept under control and the good fats in food like fresh fish and things like that are more available for consumption."

The expert also added that unhealthy and processed foods are "advertised 24 hours a day".

Meanwhile, the Fat Panel has conducted research which reveals that almost one in five people believe that saturated fat is a "good" fat, whereas one in ten do not realise that certain fats are a fundamental element of a healthy diet.

Over a third of those surveyed believed that trans fats are "good fats", while just under half of respondents (49 per cent) realised that monounsaturated fats are "good" fats.
