Fish oil can fight gum disease, research suggests
Fish oil and omega-3 fatty acids can assist in the human body's battle against gum disease, according to recent research.
After five years of studying, the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey found that people who had consumed higher amounts of the omega-3 fatty acids were less likely to develop gum disease.
Associate Professor from Harvard Medical School, Dr. Kenneth Mukamal, who worked on the study, said that eating foods such as fish can lower the chances of gum disease, as well as boosting the health of individuals.
Earlier this month, the US Agricultural Research Service also claimed that fish oil components can help to lower the risks of chronic diseases, such as diabetes and insulin resistance.
US Department of Agriculture chemist Darshan S Kelly completed the research and discovered the findings after conducting a test with 50 laboratory mice that lasted for a total of eight weeks.
