Applefest scheduled for 30th October

A new Herefordshire food festival, Applefest, will be taking place in Bromyard for two days from the 30th October.

The event was arranged by Mary Sneldon and will include many activities, including an apple pie baking competition, as well as a charity gala, according to the Ledbury Reporter.

Applefest follows from an event in Bromyard last year that revolved around marmalade and proceeds raised from the festival will be handed to Age Concern Bromyward, plus St Michael's Hospice and the HOPE Family Centre.

Meanwhile, Britain is collectively embracing baking this week, as National Baking Week began on Monday.

The scheme is imploring employees to "take a cake break" from their daily tasks at 15:00 BST by eating a cake or a different baked product of their own choosing.

Employees in Britain work some of the longest hours in the continent, with one in three men and one in ten women working over 50 hours per week.
