Get into chutney making this autumn

Now that the autumn season is well underway and many of us are harvesting fruit from our gardens, it is just the time to invest in some glass jars in preparation for chutney making.

Chutney making is easy to do and delicious preserves can be made from all kinds of easily-available fruits and vegetables, such as plums, apples and tomatoes. Dried fruit like sultanas and raisins is also often used.

As well as glass chutney jars to store your produce in, you will need a large vessel such as the Beka professional quality preserving pan, and a long wooden spoon.

A good quantity of fruits, vegetables, sugars and spices should be used, and it is a good idea to get high-quality vinegar for the best-tasting result. Beginners may want to start by following a recipe, but there is lots of room for experimentation in chutney making and before long the jars will be full of your own creations.
