Jamie Oliver whipped out his best cookware last night for the first episode of his new American Food Revolution series.

The Channel 4 show sees Oliver, equipped with chefs knife, cooks tools and maybe even his best frying pan, taking the successes of Jamie's School Dinners in the UK to West Virginia in the US.

His journey began in Huntington, where half the population are considered obese - and it quickly became clear that Jamie's US food crusade is not going to be as plain sailing as his famed triumph over the Turkey Twizzler in British schools.

School dinner lady Alice, of Central City Elementary, has taken on the role of nemesis at this early stage, appearing the complete antithesis to poor Jamie's noble cause.

Oliver even faces opposition from a local radio DJ, who said: "We don't want to sit around and eat lettuce all day."

Cooking fans can see what Jamie gets up to with his best cookware in Huntington next Monday, September 20th on Channel 4 at 22:00 BST.
